News: I've finished my challenge for this year... 20 books! Well, I know I could've put a larger number but I know that some months I rarely even read. (February, for example.)
You know the drill. Let's start!
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Easily one of my favorite books this month. It's beautiful, and it's fun to read. Let me clear something first, when I say a book is fun, it's because I've enjoyed reading it. Even if it's depressing and generally a dark book, I had fun ready, then it's a fun read. Anyhow, the story is about Finch and Violet who meet on top of the bell tower of their school, both wanting to jump (but didn't). And it explores their relationship after the incident. It's funny at times and sad at times (mostly). It'll make you feel alive sometimes. Just... bravo!
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Sorry for the faded letters. The reason I chose to read this book was because I've been told that it's good literature about teenage angst and coming of age. I didn't really like it. The narrator is extremely annoying at times that when something bad happens to him I just go "well, you deserved it." The thing I like about it is the setting, New York. I have this weak spot for New York so I was pleased with that. Overall, the book just felt "meh" but it had its good moments. I really liked his sister though. If I'm not mistaken her name is Phoebe.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
A book about a rich family living on an island and how this family isn't really that perfect, and about the Liars (Caddy, Gat, Mirren, and Johnny), who are the teenagers of the family. Many secrets to be revealed after Caddy becomes sick and loses some of her memory. Alright, the thing about this book is sometimes it's written in such an annoying way that makes me just shake my head. The first 100 pages were a slow read for me because it was really boring, but it got good after page 150. It had an awesome plot twist that left me shocked and crying. I can't wait to see the movie adaptation for this.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Williams
Second favorite book this month. It's funny, and it's sad despite itself. Okay, to be fair, I only got this book because I saw that they there was a movie adaptation for it. I liked the trailer and thought I should get the book. God knows I need more funny books in my collection. The book was extremely funny, as I've said, and Earl will make buying the book worth it. Such an awesome character, really!
If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson
If you know me, you know that I'm a person who loves anything that has angst and tragedy and all the depressing crap. It's a mystery I'm yet to solve. I saw a list of sad books on Pinterest and this was among them for being "like the first ten minutes of Up but never-ending." Honestly, it wasn't. It's about Ellie, a Jewish girl, and Jermiah, a black boy, falling in love and being star-crossed. It sounds nice to me, but the book just... didn't live up to the expectations I had. The sadness was guaranteed in the last 10 pages maybe. But it was just boring. It was extremely short, I finished it in one day.
